6 SIMPLE WAYS YOUR FAMILY CAN START GOING GREEN

Dear Dreamers
Let’s face it, we want our children to live a green world, not one where they can no longer enjoy nature as we did.

We see it everywhere, nature being drastically affected because of the trash we produce. You might think that it’s hard to have zero waste because our lifestyle is so different. It is difficult but thankfully there are more and more ways to come close to our achievement and in turn, encourage our family to go green.

1. USE REUSABLE CONTAINERS
It may not seem much when we look at it but imagine all that packaging piling up for a year. A household can generate so much waste due to packaging. Some businesses encourage people to do the same.

In some supermarkets in the Philippines, they charge you for P2 for every plastic you take. In cafeterias such as the one in Ateneo, they encourage you to bring your lunchbox by giving you a P5 discount when you do. While some business such as Package Free encourage you to go entirely package free.

2. GO TO AN EXPO
Your family will discover tons of products that are environmentally-friendly and affordable there. One expo I liked was the Eco Waste Management Summit where I discovered the wonders of bamboo straw.

3. GO TO A NATURE PARK
It’s a fun but educational ordeal to head over to a nature park. For your kids, they see it as a field trip which makes it all the more easier to encourage them. At the end of the day, remind them that if they want nature to be preserved, they should start practicing environmentally-friendly methods.

4. FIX WHAT CAN BE FIXED
Got a hole in your shirt? Rather than throwing it away, sew a patch over it especially if you only use it a home and it’s still new. Always think twice and consider it if it can be salvaged before throwing out something that’s broken.

5. DONATE, DON’T THROW
Of course, there are things that can no longer be used by the family despite its good condition. As a baby, your child has used numerous things that they can no longer use. You can also choose to sell. Used baby shoes, clothes, cribs, strollers and more can still fetch hefty prices especially if they are in good condition.

6. MAKE IT A GAME
Be creative on how you can encourage your family to go green. Maybe even make it a game for your children to enjoy. Start a project. Keep track of whenever they do something that helps the environment. Reward them for exercising a green life.

HOW DO YOU MAKE YOUR FAMILY LIFE GREENER?
