ZERO WASTE MONTH: ECO WASTE MANAGEMENT SUMMIT

Dear Dreamers
A country as abundant in biodiversity as the Philippines should be preserved, if not enhanced, in its natural beauty.

We should all aim to be stewards of nature. Taking small steps in our daily lives to live a greener one is not just for us, but for future generations. They deserve to live a livable life and we are responsible for teaching them how to be greener and how to live a sustainable life.

The lifestyle we live now may be perceived as difficult to change since we have lived this lifestyle of using plastic and practicing methods that slowly wreak havoc on our fellow inhabitants on Earth.

Change can be hard but taking small steps in living a greener life can make that change achievable. Thankfully, more and more people are being made aware of the Zero Waste Lifestyle through social media and summits such as the Ecological Waste Management Summit.

ECOLOGICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT SUMMIT
In observance of the 17th Anniversary of RA 9003 and the 4th Zero Waste Month, the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources held the Ecological Waste Management Summit: “Strengthening Cooperation and Partnerships on Ecological Solid Waste Management for the Present and Future Generations” on 25 – 27 January 2018 at the ABS-CBN Vertis Tent, Quezon City.

The event aimed to further boost the DENR’s continuous efforts in enhancing public awareness and understanding of environmental issues and concerns, focusing on practical knowledge for effective solid waste management at source, which includes, waste segregation, composting, and recycling.

This government initiative enjoins a stronger partnership with all stakeholders, local governments, communities, private businesses, and the public. An increased awareness and commitment on effective waste management creates a future where citizens enjoy an unpolluted environment, sustainable, and secure from natural calamities. To achieve this, the summit presents an interactive program that will inform, instruct, and inspire participants to take the lead towards a cleaner and greener world.

Numerous organizations and businesses participated in the summit to to ensure that people are aware of their options in achieving a Zero Waste Lifestyle.

Take plastic straws for example. We only use it once then we throw it away. What if, you could have straws made of bamboo? There are so many minuscule things we can change in our lifestyle that can affect the environment, which is why it is time to step up and help address the Philippines’ garbage problem.
