6 THINGS THAT WILL MAKE SEOULGYUPSAL YOUR NEW FAVORITE KOREAN BARBECUE RESTAURANT

Dear Dreamers
With Korean Grill Restaurants popping up left and right all over Metro Manila, getting a taste of the popular Korean barbecue has never been this accessible. With such a vast number of K-BBQ around, how does one make it into your list of favorites?

HERE ARE 6 THINGS THAT MADE SEOULGYUPSAL MY NEW FAVORITE KOREAN BARBECUE RESTAURANT.
1. MARINATED MEAT
Most reasonably priced Korean barbeque joints I’ve seen so far don’t offer a wide selection of marinated meats like Seoulgyupsal. The K-Grill joints that do are usually priced high.

2. AFFORDABLE
When I say that other K-Grillvare priced high, their prices are around twice the price of Seoulgyupsal’s. Compared to similarly priced Korean Barbeque restaurants, Seoulgyupsal’s cheapest option is priced at P399. However, that option already offers 2 types of meat with marinade and no marinade, unlike other K-Grills who offer only none marinated meats.

3. CHICKEN
Other K-Grills usually serve pork and beef but I rarely see chicken! Seoulgyupsal’s cheapest option already offers chicken, with an option of sweet soy marinade and Korean spicy marinade.

4. CHARCOAL
Not all K-Grill restaurants are equal, some use gas, electricity or charcoal. Now, what makes charcoal grills so much better in terms of taste? Imagine the oils of the meat dripping on the charcoal, these give the meats a smoky flavour that will leave you drooling.

5. BANCHAN
In comparison to local K-Grill joints where side dishes are served buffet-style, at Seoulgyupsal, the side dishes are served by request. This gives you more time to concentrate on your grilling and eating while eliminating the chance of running out of a side dish and waiting for it to get refilled. The side dishes they offer are also uncommon compared to other Korean barbecue restaurants.

6. ENJOYMENT OF THE MEATS UNTIL YOU ARE FULL
Probably the most important factor, being able to enjoy the meats until you are full is what everybody is after. Other Korean Grill restaurants don’t offer meats with marinades or only have a limited types of marinade and dipping sauces which is why they get tired of the taste faster. You can check out my review and experience at Seoulgyupsal below and read about what I mean.

REVIEW
Not only was I impressed with the stars of the show, the meats, but the supporting factors such as the side dish and dipping sauces have me impressed as well! The spicy beef was my favorite and I see it as a must-try as it was undoubtedly scrumptious. I found everything to be really delicious which is why this is now my favorite Korean Grill restaurant considering this is half the price of my previous favorite premium Korean Grill restaurant.

THOUGHTS ABOUT THE SIDE DISHES
You have the usual soup, japchae and kimchi. There’s also the less common steamed egg, peanuts, dried anchovies and mashed pumpkin. My favorite so far is the tofu jelly which I have not yet seen in other K-Grill restaurants! I also loved the mashed pumpkin and potato which was sweet and a perfect replacement for rice to enjoy with the meats.

LIST OF SIDE DISHES
Tofu jelly
Dried anchovies
Peanuts
Kimchi
Mashed potato and pumpkins
Pickled Carrots

TIPS IN MAKING MOST OUT OF YOUR DINING EXPERIENCE AT SEOULGYUPSAL
First off, order the soup and consume it first to prepare your tummies for a feast. Order a lot of meats and the side dishes that you want from the start. Order for more meats in between grilling so that you don’t have to wait too long as a lot of people will be ordering alongside you.
Try the meats with rice, kimchi or lettuce while mixing and matching with the 3 different dipping sauces. I really liked the garlic mayo sauce. If you’re feeling adventurous, eat the meats with the different side dishes like meat with peanuts, meat with mashed pumpkin, meat with steamed eggs or maybe even meat with the japchae.

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE
I went there for their soft opening so I’m sure they were still working out some things. What I didn’t like was that the place was too smoky. They had exhausts in every table but they still needed more exhausts. I overheard that they were going to fix that soon. Once they do fix it, I’ll be coming back for more!
