WHAT TO EAT AT KALYE 1 ABAD SANTOS FOOD PARK

DEAR DREAMERS
San Juan welcomed its very first food park last March 5, 2017 and Isaac and I were invited to try out what Kalye 1 Abad Santos Food Park had to offer.

It is no doubt that Kalye 1 offers a relaxing and elevated atmosphere with its brick paved flooring and a fountain for prosperity to boot.

FOOD AND MENU
Below are my thoughts and picks for each of the food stalls of Kalye 1 Abad Santos. You may click the link of the menu photo to view the larger version of the menu.

RAFIK SHAWARMA
Beef Shawarma Wrap (Regular P90) (Large P150), Wagyu Shawarma Rice (Regular P190 Large P250) and Samosa

For 16 years, Rafik Shawarma has been participating in the Makati Salcedo Market and now, they finally have their own stall. If you are ever craving for shawarma then you should definitely try their wagyu shawarma, it is a delicious combination of succulent wagyu and their good ol’ shawarma.

BELLE’S STATION
Cucumber Lemonade (Cup P75) (Light Bulb P165) (1.7 Liters P200)

What sets Belle’s Station apart from other drinks stall is that you can buy their containers along with their drinks. Their bulb container with drinks costs P165 and if you bring your bulb container to their stall, a refill will only cost P65. If you do drop by, try their refreshing cucumber lemonade and their sweet purple twist.

CHIX & CHEESE
1 pc Popeye’s Choice Chix & Cheese with Garlic Yogurt Dip and Corn & Carrots (P150)

Chix & Cheese is one of the more unique food concepts that can only be found at Kalye 1. Chix & Cheese is basically mozzarella and cheddar fried rice stuffed chicken, eat it hot enjoy watch that gooey mozzarella cheese. We tried the Popeye’s Choice which is adds spinach and mushroom in the stuffed chicken. It was definitely one of my favorites! The chicken skin was glazed with something sweet, which adds a contrast of the savory surprise that awaited our chicken and the garlic yogurt only made this scrumptious combination even more scrumptious.

BAO PLS!
Pork Rice Bowl (P185), Pork Bao and Chicken Bao (2 pcs P165) (3 pcs P230)

Bao Pls! offers baos or steamed buns as well as rice bowls. Both their pork baos and pork rice bowls offers the same tender pork belly. I prefer the pork bao because the tender pork goes well with its sweet and chewy dough and hoisin sauce. Sweet and crunchy, the chicken bao is definitely a treat.

KARITON KLASIK
Bagnet with Pinakbet Rice Meal (P160)

Kare-Kare Classic (P200)

A visit to Kariton Klasik’s stall will surely catch your eye as it is lined with their karitons. Not only is their presentation instagram-worthy but their food will surely satisfy fellow Filipino food lovers. Thanks to the kare-kare’s yummy, nutty flavor, eating vegetables became such a treat.

CARNIVORE COOKERY
Smoked Beef Brisket with Rice (P220), Blooming Onion (P100) and Coleslaw (P60)

Carnivore, as the name suggests, is perfect for meat lovers. They pride in their 12 hours smoked meat and will surely leave you with no complaints in their mouthwatering beef brisket. Pair their delightfully smoky beef brisket with their blooming onion (fried onion) and you will be one happy customer.

BBQ IN A BOX
38 Pieces of 6-Inch Stick of Pork BBQ and Chicken BBQ (P774)

I am not exaggerating when I say that BBQ in a Box’s barbeques are, if not the best, one of the best barbeques I have ever had and Isaac, the picky chef, agrees. Best of all, they deliver within Metro Manila for a minimum purchase of P500, just dial 2087-227.

SEVENTEEN SHRIMPS & WINGS
Salted Egg Shrimps and Classic Buffalo Wings (Solo Platter P235) (Half Pounder P460) (Double Pounder P785)

Seventeen combines two of my favorite food in their combo platter. Eating shrimps and wings can get messy but luckily, Seventeen provides their customers with plastic gloves and greaseproof paper bibs to maximize their dining experience. Customers can choose their own sauce, we tried the salted egg shrimps and the classic buffalo wings, definitely a flavorful treat for the tastebuds.

EL BIGOTILYO
Pork Carnitas Mojado (P305)

It was the first time I have tried a mojado or a “wet burrito” and I must thank El Bigotilyo for enlightening me. Their “wet burrito” is a deep-fried burrito chimichanga style smothered with enchilada sauce and topped with melted shredded cheese and pico de gallo. We tried the pork carnitas mojado or the Mexican pulled pork mojado, it had everything I liked about Mexican food and more.

AFU’S CUISINE
Afu’s Cuisine offers Chinese food and their bestsellers are their tempura and salpicao.

BREW AND SPIRITS
Strawberry Margarita (P220), Kalye 1 Sling (P200) and Mango Margarita (P220)

For those who want to have a good time drinking with friends, Brew and Spirits can be found at the second floor of Kalye 1. You can also take home their mason jars if you buy their mason jar with drinks and bring them again for refills. Since I am breastfeeding, I was unable to try their alcoholic beverages so I asked Isaac to try their drink named after Kalye 1. Tasting of cherries, the Kalye 1 Sling was delicious and fitting drink for the food park that offers a delicious and good time.

OVERALL
Overall, Kalye 1 offers an upscale dining experience. The food is definitely of quality and the venue is family-friendly, there were a lot of families (and babies) present when we dined at Kalye 1.
